FAQ
How do I get my wristband and beer ticket?
You must be 21+ (WITH valid ID) to get a wristband and beer ticket! No exceptions!!
During the Festival: Race bib tear-offs may be redeemed for the wristband and beer ticket at the festival’s Main Gate booth Friday between 4:20 PM 8 PM. Race bib tear-offs may also be redeemed until 11:30 AM on race day. There will be no redemptions after 11:30 AM on Saturday and no redemptions on Sunday. You must be 21+ (WITH valid ID) to get a wristband and beer! Race bib tear-offs will have no cash redemption value but may be redeemed by someone other than the athlete.
The festival Main Gate booth is located near the top of the driveway that leads into Candler Park (near McLendon Ave). Other booths at the festival will not have these special wristbands, so please do not stand in a long line for nothing!
Immediately after the race: Bib tear-offs can be redeemed next to the t-shirt table at the end of the race (until 11:30 AM). Race bib tear-offs will have no cash redemption value but may be redeemed by someone other than the athlete.
Can I run or walk with a stroller?
Our narrow streets and large crowd make this race a tight fit with just the people. We ask that parties with strollers start near the back of the line to allow runners to make their best time.
Can I run with my dog?
No, please do not run with your dog on the course. Please leave your pets at home.
Can I run with my iPod?
For safety reasons, we discourage the use of headphones on the course.
Are walkers allowed?
YES! Walkers are very welcomed to our event. We ask is that you obey the rules of the course and walk no more than two people abreast so that others may pass easily. Walkers will start at the same time as runners but are advised, for safety reasons, to start their race at the back of the pack. Walker times are recorded using the same MyLaps Bib Timing System as runners.
How is the race timed?
Your MyLaps Bib must be affixed to your shirt. Your time will start when you cross the start line.
A back-up place card system will be located at the finish. Please record your time at the finish if this is important to you.
What distance is this race?
The SweetWater 420 Fest 5K is um…5 kilometers (~3.1 miles). This year’s course is USATF certified for accuracy. ( link to explain USATF certification: http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/ )
Is there a bag check?
Yes! A self-service bag check area will be located behind packet pickup at Epworth United Methodist Church starting at 7:00 AM. Bags will be available, courtesy of Big Peach Running Co. All bags must be clearly marked with your bib number. Our volunteers will monitor the area until 9:45 AM. The security of your belongings is not guaranteed. Under no circumstances should you bring valuables, as neither CPNO nor Epworth UMC will accept responsibility for lost or stolen articles. Clothing check bags that are left behind may be claimed by contacting CPNO after April 18th. There is no bag check at the festival.
Will there be day-of-race registration?
Maybe. Stay tuned to our website and/or Facebook page for updates during the week leading up to the event. If day-of-race registration is available, a table will be located behind Epworth UMC from 7 AM - 8 AM. The fee for registration after April 14th is $40.
Am I guaranteed to get my shirt in a certain size?
When you check the box next to a t-shirt size on your registration form, you are not reserving a shirt; you are helping us plan how many shirts we need to order in each size. Sizes will be distributed among pre-registered participants first, then on a first come, first-served basis
Can I get a refund if I register but don't run?
No. We plan the race based on the number of registered runners, so once you have registered we cannot offer you a refund. If, however, you register and do not run, you may still pick up your race packet and shirt (before Saturday, April 21st at 11:30 AM) and join us in the fun.
What about parking and transportation?
Parking is very limited. We highly recommend arriving by MARTA rail. The Edgewood / Candler Park Station is less than 1/3 mile from Epworth UMC. For information on http://www.itsmarta.com/ew-edg-overview.aspx
By Marta:
Candler Park as its own station (Candler Park/Edgewood Station) on DeKalb Avenue. Walk north (to the right!) up Oakdale Road. Turn left to get to Little Five Points (L5P) or go right to hit the Flying Biscuit or the Park.
If you're coming from North Atlanta by car:
No-brainer method: Come down I-85 and get off at the North Avenue exit. Turn left & go past the Varsity, NationsBank, the Fox Theater, Rio, a bunch o' fast food places, the Masquerade, go past Manuel's Tavern at North Highland (on your right), go through one more light at Moreland Avenue & you're there! Freedom Park is on your right (check out the roller bladers). Go through two stop signs & turn right (it's a dead end so you really have no choice). On your left is the World Famous Candler Park Master's Links Country Club (a.k.a. our own little 9 hole public course). On your right is the Mary Lin Elementary School. Up a little further and you can see Candler Park itself on the left. Go to the stop sign. Turn left to hit the Flying Biscuit for Brunch (or maybe Fellini's or LaFonda's). Turn right to head back to Little Five Points.
Quicker, but more confusing: Come down I-85 and get off at the Carter Center exit. Go through the light and bear right on Ga. 42 at the split just under the bizarre "open tunnel" (you'll understand when you see it). The Carter Center will be on your left. Bear right at the next fork (staying on 42). Go through the light (Freedom Park & the neighborhood are now directly in front of you). Turn right onto Moreland Avenue at the next stoplight. You are now in L5P. You can take any left along here and you'll be in Candler Park! Go past the Skull (you'll know what I mean), and through the next stop light. The Brewhouse will be on your left and Zesto's (home of the happy servers) will be across the street on your left. Turn left onto McLendon Avenue at the stoplight. You're now in Candler Park.
If you're coming from South, East, or West Atlanta by car:
Take I-20 to the Moreland Avenue exit & go north. Note that if you're coming from the east, there is only one Moreland Avenue exit. If you're coming from the west, there are two .... you want the second one. After you get off, go through five stop lights (you'll see Atlanta Gas Light on your right at this point and a U-Haul & Apartments lofts that used to be a Bakery). Keep going through the tunnel under the railroad tracks to the next stoplight. You're now in L5P. Turn right onto McLendon Avenue and you're in Candler Park. Turn left to grab a brew at the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club.
If you're coming from Northeast Atlanta by car:
Since we're in the Northeast part of Atlanta, you probably already know how to get here, but here goes …..
Take Lawrenceville Hwy south and it will turn into Ponce de Leon. Turn off your brain until after you go under the bridge for the railroad tracks (watch out for the idiot on the left, that road is narrow!). Keep going until you see either Clifton or Moreland/Briarcliff. Turn left onto Clifton to hit the Biscuit or get a quick body piercing. Turn left on Moreland to hit L5P & the western reaches of Candler Park.
