News and Happenings

US10K Classic OFFICIALLY RETIRED

One of the most popular runs in Atlanta for 17 years was the US 10K Classic held every year on Labor Day. You want hills, it has hills. Considered one of the toughest 10K events in the Southeast due to the hills it was wonderful Labor Day tradition. The race featured 10K runners, walkers, cyclists, wheelchair athletes and inline skating.

In 2011, the race was put on hold and with the hope to come back the following year. In early 2012, race organizers announced that the 2012 Labor Day race will not be held. Race organizers announced later in 2012 that the event was making a comeback. They announced that the race will be held, but was moving to Memorial Day 2013. Sadly, that event was also cancelled. In early 2013, organizers officially announced that the US10K Classic will not be held in 2013 and will officially be retired.

The event attracted more than 10,000 participants some years and was an official end to summer. The event raised more than $5 million for local charities with the emphasis on children.

The US 10K Classic was always a favorite and will be missed.
