Directions:
By Marta:
Candler Park has its own station (Candler Park/Edgewood Station) on DeKalb Avenue. Walk north (to the right!) up Oakdale Road. Turn left to get to Little Five Points (L5P) or go right to hit the Flying Biscuit or the Park.
If you really want to go to Little Five Points, the Inman park station is less of a walk!
If you're coming from North Atlanta by car:
No-brainer method: Come down I-85 and get off at the North Avenue exit. Turn left & go past the Varsity, NationsBank, the Fox Theater, Rio, a bunch o' fast food places, the Masquerade, go past Manuel's Tavern at North Highland (on your right), go through one more light at Moreland Avenue & you're there! Freedom Park is on your right (check out the roller bladers). Go through two stop signs & turn right (it's a dead end so you really have no choice). On your left is the World Famous Candler Park Master's Links Country Club (a.k.a. our own little 9 hole public course). On your right is the Mary Lin Elementary School. Up a little further and you can see Candler Park itself on the left. Go to the stop sign. Turn left to hit the Flying Biscuit for Brunch (or maybe Fellini's or LaFonda's). Turn right to head back to Little Five Points.
Quicker, but more confusing: Come down I-85 and get off at the Carter Center exit. Go through the light and bear right on Ga. 42 at the split just under the bizarre "open tunnel" (you'll understand when you see it). The Carter Center will be on your left. Bear right at the next fork (staying on 42). Go through the light (Freedom Park & the neighborhood are now directly in front of you). Turn right onto Moreland Avenue at the next stoplight. You are now in L5P. You can take any left along here and you'll be in Candler Park! Go past the Skull (you'll know what I mean), and through the next stop light. The Brewhouse will be on your left and Zesto's (home of the happy servers) will be across the street on your left. Turn left onto McLendon Avenue at the stoplight. You're now in Candler Park.
If you're coming from South, East, or West Atlanta by car:
Take I-20 to the Moreland Avenue exit & go north. Note that if you're coming from the east, there is only one Moreland Avenue exit. If you're coming from the west, there are two .... you want the second one. After you get off, go through five stop lights (you'll see Atlanta Gas Light on your right at this point and a U-Haul & Apartments lofts that used to be a Bakery). Keep going through the tunnel under the railroad tracks to the next stoplight. You're now in L5P. Turn right onto McLendon Avenue and you're in Candler Park. Turn left to grab a brew at the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club.
If you're coming from Northeast Atlanta by car:
Since we're in the Northeast part of Atlanta, you probably already know how to get here, but here goes …..
Take Lawrenceville Hwy south and it will turn into Ponce de Leon. Turn off your brain until after you go under the bridge for the railroad tracks (watch out for the idiot on the left, that road is narrow!). Keep going until you see either Clifton or Moreland/Briarcliff. Turn left onto Clifton to hit the Biscuit or get a quick body piercing. Turn left on Moreland to hit L5P & the western reaches of Candler Park.
