SPOTLIGHT on RUNNERS
The April and May newsletter I highlighted local running clubs. This month I want to highlight a couple of people. These are people who I think are empitmizes the everyday athlete.

Ben Dempsey

I came across Ben's story late 2011. Many of you may have heard of Ben and seen his story. In the summer of 2009, while weighing 360 pounds, Ben decided to change his life. He designed a plan that included a healthier diet and exercise. He began to walk and then to run. He eventually lost more than 100 lbs. Ben ran the Publix Georgia Half Marathon in 2011 and then ran the Publix Georgia Marathon in 2012.

Swim Bike Mom

So who is Swim Bike Mom? She is Meredith Atwood, a mom from metro Atlanta who in August 2010 decided that she wanted to do a triathlon. She started on her journey. She changed her lifestyle by losing weight, and training, training, training. She finished her first sprint triathlon and kept going. She then went on to do an Olympic distance triathlon and then a half ironman. She now is training for Ironman Coeur d'Alene.

She has done all of this while being a mom, wife, friend and more. She has a great blog that talks about her continued journey. She has been an inspiration to many other moms who are involved in triathlons. She has even wrote a book: "Triathlon for the Every Woman."
